The teaching philosophy I plan on incorporating in my teaching will be a combination of a progressivist and essentialist classroom. In my opinion, both philosophy’s have points that are great for a classroom in today’s society. I believe that there are essential subjects and materials that should be taught; such as Arithmetic, Literature, Writing, Reading, Social Studies and so forth. I think that an education lacking these basic fundamentals is one that lacks substance. However, I also believe that in a modern world, modern things should also be incorporated into the teaching. Technology for instance is becoming a massive factor in today’s world. At the college level, teachers are extremely dependant on the technology in the classroom. If it plays such a huge role in the rest of the world, why subtract it from the learning place? Therefore, I will be teaching under a progressive/essentialist umbrella.
